Fault Based Testing (Error Seeding) Mutation testing Techniques. Fault-based testing has long been used in software testing in the form of error seeding. In late 1970's, DeMillo et al. proposed the mutation testing method. This method has been developed into more sophisticated fault-based software testing theories and techniques. The focus of these theories and techniques is on the detection of faults in the software under test. The corresponding test adequacy criteria intend to measure the quality of a test set according to its effectiveness or ability of detecting faults in the program. This chapter will introduce the recent development in the theory and technique of fault-based testing and discuss the corresponding adequacy criteria.

Software Testing is perhaps the least-understood and most critical component of the Software Development process in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with roughly 40-45% cost associated with it. This article explores the importance of a Testing Engineer towards completion of any successful software project and throws some light on the hurdles that a Testing Engineer encounters and summarizes effective solutions for the same.

Why Bother to Unit Test?
This paper addresses a question often posed by developers who are new to the concept
of thorough testing: Why bother to unit test? The question is answered by adopting the
position of devil's advocate, presenting some of the common arguments made against
unit testing, then proceeding to show how these arguments are worthless. The case for
unit testing is supported by published data.

This section is a little different from some areas on the site but it fits in with the general theme of game testing that this section is about. What I want to do here is present a few examples that I have written for game testing and then show some specifics relative to those games in terms of test concerns

There are many game development companies that strongly rely on playing to test a new game. The idea here is to get as many people as possible playing the game with the idea apparently being that this is some form of testing. To a certain extent it is a form of exploratory testing and, as such, has a great deal of merit. Other companies however much more strongly rely on a strict testing regime, i.e., a systematic approach that looks at all areas of a game to ensure that the game is as bug-free as possible and confirming that everything works as required.

The people involved in the whole process of game design is a diverse group, often more so than in testing other software applications. As a test or quality practitioner, you may find yourself dealing with game producers, game designers, technical directors, programmers, publishers, artists, sound engineers, project managers, product coordinators, storyboarders, animators, etc. Like most software, there are key areas that will be considered drivers of success in terms of the game:
